The Next Step
It is said that if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life-
That is actually false.
You in fact… do work and, potentially could burn out the thing that you love while doing it.
There are however, loopholes that I discovered during my entire life as a child of entrepreneurs, and that is if you do the thing you love WITH THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE, then it makes the working worth it.
This Notion
is the anchor for my decisions. I understand that I am the type of person that to be happy, is to create a life where my family can be together, work together, learn together, seek God together. I want to weave together a passion for exposing people to this wonderful life of true authentic food, with the ability to keep my family close.
I’ve told the story many times now of how God truly knew what he was doing when He led us here and of how much I’ve learned of the goodness that happens when you learn to trust what He has for you in the face of contradicting what your heart may want. Since stepping onto our land, we have been handed down blessings through more land, increasing our acreage and through dreams and ideas that can potentially lead to truly beautiful things for many to benefit from.
Our farm
is located off a black top road on a 1/2 mile long gravel drive that only consisted of 3 houses and 4 cross fenced lots. Since our arrival last year, we have purchased 3 of the lots to add to our acreage, one of them being where my parents will soon add a home.
Recently as of a week ago, we are the owners of a 1650 sqft home with a barn that rests on 7 meadowed acres near the very end of our dead end drive in the holler.
Just a short walk down the drive, obscured by two large hills and a massive abundance of forest, will bring you to the creek that flows right in front of this properties drive way.

we plan to rent out for additional income. If all of the plans and ideas are able to be executed, my brother will be moving from California to take up a new job post with Matthew. Since both my brother and my husband are experienced contractors, Matthew has secured work with certain companies locally and my brother will be running the day to day for that so that Matthew can help build things here. This would be my number one choice of course as it brings my entire immediate family onto our land!
The house definitely needs elbow grease. The previous owner left the inside a complete mess. Carpets, flooring, toilets all need to be replaced. The good news is that I get to stretch my creative legs and add touches that truly make this place a sanctuary.

This is where the “working with family will help the work feel less like work” comes in. The barn was also left with heaps of trash bags hidden in the stables, 7 years worth of hay with horse manure that were never cleaned, a rodent issue and a few other things that are going to need to be replaced. The bones however are sturdy and like new and the barn even boasts having full electricity. Walking through the barn will open you up into the fenced meadow that is perfect for horses.

The house sits on a quarter acre across from the barn. We’ve decided that instead of attempting finding the right person to rent a home with an 8 stall barn, we’ll rent the house on its own and utilize the barn as a horse boarding facility. My little neighbor friend who is 16 and just the sweetest thing, is an ambitious young woman who shows horses in her spare time and is looking to pursue becoming a farrier. She will be attaining a job with us when the time is right and I’m hoping she will not only be an incredible asset here, but the job with us can open the doors to her financially fulling her career.
All of this won’t be overnight- It’s going to take a lot of time management and organization (two of my not-so-great qualities) but the potential is intoxicating. It feels exhilarating to be able to finally step into the place in my adult life that I have always wanted to be. Since I was a little girl, I knew my life would center around my ability to think- to find creative ways of doing things and coming up with ideas. As life and God had it however, I was made to address my infertility and many other bumps in the road that gave Matthew and I a slow start but boy, am I so irrevocably and completely thankful.
